Martin Philippe

Biography

Philippe Martin is the Dean of the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po since 2022 and Professor at the Department of Economics since 2009.
He is Vice President and Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).
He was Chairman of the Council of Economic Analysis attached to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Finance from 2018 to 2022. From 2015 to 2016 he was the economic advisor to Emmanuel Macron, Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs. He was previously the chair of the economics department at Sciences Po (2008-2013) and was also a professor at the Paris School of Economics (2000-2008) as well as at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. He worked as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (2001-2002).
His research in the fields of international macroeconomics and finance, trade and economic geography has been published in international journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies or Journal of International Economics. He has co-authored several books including Economic Geography and Public Policy (Princeton University Press) and The Economics of Clusters, Lessons from the French Experience (Oxford University Press).
He is a graduate of Sciences Po, the University of Paris-Dauphine and holds a PhD in economics from Georgetown University, Washington DC.
