What are the climate risks we face in the near future? If the Paris Agreement is not adhered to, we can expect a global temperature rise of up to 5 degrees by the end of the century, plus African heat waves, desertification and drought, forest fires, floods, and a sea level rise of more than a meter. There are other risks besides global warming as well: loss of biodiversity and pollution of water, air and soil. This is the new geological era called the Anthropocene, in which the activities of eight billion humans threaten to make the planet hostile to life. The opportunity to reduce the damage still exists, but it requires a rapid and massive effort.
