
Phaim Bhuiyan was born in Rome in 1995, of Bangladeshi origin, and developed a passion for the audiovisual world at the age of 14. He started as a YouTuber, approaching filming and editing techniques as an amateur. After his experience on the web, he decided to become a filmmaker, creating music videos for rappers from the Roman suburbs and punk rock bands. In 2013, he made a short documentary “To Be or Not to Be… Italian” for the production company Zalab under the supervision of Andrea Segre. In 2014, he won a scholarship to IED in the Video Design and Filmmaking section, expanding his technical and theoretical knowledge. In 2016, he worked for the production company Fremantle on the television program “Nemo Nobody Excluded,” creating “Love in the Time of Second Generations” with author Francesco Medosi. In 2019, his first feature film Bangla, produced by Fandango with TimVision, was released in cinemas, winning several awards such as Best First Work at the Golden Globes (2019), Best Comedy at the Silver Ribbons (2019), and Best Debut Director at the David di Donatello Awards (2020). In 2022, Bangla – The Series, produced by Fandango together with RaiFiction, was released on RaiPlay and aired on Rai 3, co-directed with Emanuele Scaringi, which also won Best Comedy at the Silver Ribbons – Great Series.
