Biography

Marc Onetto was Senior Vice President of Amazon.com for Global Operations and Customer Service. Today, he collaborates with business teams and university students to teach how to lead Lean transformation to improve customer experience and shareholder value, through his consulting company Leadership from the Mind and the Heart LLC. From 2006 to 2013, he led the supply chain, warehouses, transportation, and customer service of the world’s largest online retailer. During his tenure, Amazon’s e-commerce revenue grew from $7 billion to over $75 billion. He pioneered the application of the Lean model to retail distribution, strengthening the “customer-centric” culture that became the foundation of Amazon’s success. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Solectron, a $12 billion leader in electronics manufacturing and integrated supply chain services (2003-2006). Before that, he had a 15-year career at GE, where he held top roles including Vice President of European Operations and several leadership positions in GE Medical Systems: VP of Service Europe, global CIO, global quality manager, and finally executive responsible for worldwide manufacturing and supply chain. He was one of the pioneers of Six Sigma at GE and led the globalization and quality transformation of GE Medical Systems. Jack Welch cited and acknowledged him in his autobiography Jack – Straight from the Gut. Marc earned an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie-Mellon University, where he is now a member of the advisory board. He is also an engineer graduated from the “École Centrale de Lyon. He is a Knight of the” National Order of Merit of the French Republic, an honor received for his contribution to economic cooperation between France and the United States.
