Michele Belot

Biography

She is a Professor of Economics at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She is also the Director of the Labor Dynamics Institute at Cornell and a Fellow of CEPR and IZA. She has previously held positions in the UK at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Oxford, and the University of Essex, as well as in Italy at the European University Institute. Her research interests broadly cover applied microeconomics, with a particular focus on experimental work in areas related to labor, health, and education. Her recent work involves designing and testing interventions through randomized controlled trials in the fields of health and job search. In the health sector, her work focuses on interventions aimed at encouraging individuals to adopt healthier behaviors. In the job search field, the interventions aim to provide relevant information to job seekers using online digital tools.

She has published in journals such as the “Review of Economic Studies,” “American Economic Journal Macroeconomics,” “Review of Economics and Statistics,” “Journal of Health Economics,” “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences,” and “The Economic Journal.” She served as President of the European Association of Labour Economists from 2020 to 2023.
